Data destruction and equipment disposal

Old equipment, handled properly

Retiring a fleet, closing an office, or clearing a storage room of machines nobody wants to be responsible for. Drives get wiped or destroyed, every device gets a written record, and the hardware leaves with us. Any size job, across Clermont County and Greater Cincinnati.

Why the drives are the problem

A retired computer is not junk, it is a filing cabinet with the lock removed. Old payroll, customer records, saved passwords, email archives and tax documents all sit on the drive after the machine stops being useful. Deleting files does not remove them, and neither does a factory reset. Equipment that leaves a building without its drives handled is a disclosure waiting to happen, and it stays your liability no matter who hauled it away.

What we do, plainly

  • Software sanitization. Spinning hard drives get every sector overwritten. Solid-state and NVMe drives get the drive's own firmware erase command, because overwriting flash does not reliably clear it and any vendor who tells you otherwise is guessing.
  • Physical destruction when you would rather the platter never exist again, or when a drive is too failed to sanitize.
  • On-site witnessed destruction if your policy requires someone from your side watching it happen.
  • A written record per device with the serial number, method, date, result, and technician, so you can show what happened to any specific machine later.

Records and pricing

VetTech provides a written record for every processed device or drive. The record identifies the serial number, method, date, result, and technician. Software-sanitized media receives a data sanitization record. Physically destroyed media receives a certificate of destruction. These are VetTech-issued service records, not third-party certifications.

Service1 to 14 devices15+ devices
Software wipe + sanitization record $15/device $12/device
Physical destruction + certificate $25/device $20/device
Hard drive only (client-removed) $10/drive $8/drive
On-site witnessed destruction $200 setup + per-device

Returning the equipment? Jobs of 15 or more devices qualify for the published bulk rate above.

Free pickup starts at 5 devices. You don't have to reach the bulk rate to stop hauling equipment around — five is enough for us to come get it, anywhere in Clermont County or Greater Cincinnati. CRT monitors and old box TVs are quoted separately: they cost real money to recycle and we won't pretend otherwise. Free pickup is a current offer and depends on how much intake capacity we have, so call and confirm before you plan around it.

Honest scope, before you ask your compliance officer

This is plain-language secure wiping and destruction with a written service record. It is not a certified regulatory compliance service. We do not hold R2 or e-Stewards certification, and we do not certify NIST, DoD, HIPAA, FERPA, or SOX compliance on your behalf. What you get is a clear description of the method performed and a record for every device.

If your auditor requires a certified standard, say so up front and we will tell you honestly whether we can meet it in writing. If we cannot, we will say that too, and you should hire someone who can. A vendor who agrees to every requirement on the call is the one to worry about.

What happens to the hardware

If you own the equipment and transfer it to VetTech Homefront LLC, eligible devices may qualify for service credit after inspection. The credit and the ownership transfer are agreed in writing before work begins. This is a trade-in, not a charitable donation, and no tax-deductible receipt is issued.

Machines with life left in them are rebuilt and put back to use rather than landfilled. Machines that are done are destroyed. Either way your data is handled first, and it never rides along to wherever the hardware ends up.

How a bulk job runs

  1. Call or text with a rough device count and what is on them.
  2. You get a flat quote from the published rates, not a discovery call.
  3. Pickup gets scheduled at your convenience. Bulk-rate jobs in the service area are collected free.
  4. Drives are sanitized or destroyed and every device gets its record.
  5. You get the records package. Usable hardware is rebuilt, the rest is destroyed.
